Despite what some uninformed historians assert, there is no corruption issue in the Igbo language. My question is: Why was it not so easy to corrupt the entire names, language, and culture of the Bini people that the so-called princes from Bini brought with them? 

Why hasn't the Igbo language been corrupted? 

Why hasn't the Yorùbá language been corrupted? 

And why hasn't the Ibibio language been corrupted?

 

How possible is it that a whole prince would leave his kingdom, travel to another land, establish a new kingdom, and lose his entire language, religion, and identity to foreigners? Is it not laughable? This is why the Igbanke people remain Igbo people to this day.

 

Ihkime became Ezechime, according to them. 

Ohomina Ohomiator became Ọnịcha Olona, too.

So, did the entire region change these names simultaneously, yet they speak different Igbo dialects?

 

So when Ihkime became Ezechime, it was announced across the entire villages from Ika to Ukwuani to Enuani and Oshimili that he should now be called Ezechime. Why didn't other Bini names like Akenzua, Esigie, Idia and other Bini Oba names get corrupted by the Igbos, too? So, we could pronounce those ones to date, but we had to corrupt the ones of just Ezechime and Ọnịcha Olona?

 

Why claim that everything was corrupted from Bini to Igbo by Igbos? It means you have no strong culture like you claim because even the Igbanke and Ikwerre people who are outside the South East still speak fluent Igbo. Igbanke is even closer to Bini than the Anioma region, and they still speak Igbo and not Bini. How does your story make sense if you couldn't influence Igbanke to speak Bini despite being your next-door neighbour?

 

To this day, the king of Igbanke is known as the OBI, just as he is in Biafra land, including Asaba. There has been no kingship title in Benin from the past until now, known as Obi. It is, therefore, laughable to hear anyone insinuate that the wonderful people of Igbanke are from Benin. They are not. Igbanke people are pure and undiluted Igbo people.

 

The Igbo race, no matter where they migrated to, cannot lose their ancestry. We are Ndigbo and shall so proudly remain.
