In today's Nigeria everywhere and everything is shutting down. Nothing seem to be holding the already faded lose ends. Things have truly fallen Apart and the centre can no longer hold.
Presently, the Banks in Nigeria have been mandated to confiscate Naira notes of the masses and not to dispense the old nor new. The people are wailing as hunger bites. No means to buy commodities and no means to sell. The popular Point of sale (POS) agents have no naira to do business. The ATM machines have all shutdown from business of dispensing cash. Restaurants and hotels are no longer serving Food. No money to buy foodstuffs and so hunger sets in.
While the common man is in hunger, the rich man formed syndicates making millions from the confiscated new Naira notes. This is how bad it is in Nigeria today. This is not the first-time new money is introduced in Nigeria.
Nigeria, the 5th biggest Oil Producing nation in the world is also shutting down because Petroleum products is no longer affordable by the masses. From N145.00 per litre in 2015 it has risen to N500.00 today and yet it is scarce. Manufacturers can no longer cope. Road transport Movements has declined because transport fare has skyrocketed.
This hardship and hopelessness have increased the rate of criminality. On daily basis, unknown gunmen move into the streets robbing, killing and kidnapping innocent people for ransom.
So, here we walk in stilts with mouth closed! Even ears and eyes need to be closed at times. Here in the southeast, Army and Police check points are located every half a kilometre and the people are treated like slaves! Each Driver must pay through those points or get shot and tagged a terrorist.
At nights people sleep with one eye closed expecting gunshots or attacks from either marauding Fulani herders or from frustrated bandits trying to steal from you. During the day, people cannot eat in comfort nor can they take a walk out of their homes in confidence. People are forced to remain indoors under lock like animals in Zoos.
The children in schools are unsafe and parents have their hearts in mouths because of uncertainties. Nobody is sure of what may happen to them any moment!
In all of these, the Rulers are not interested if the masses all die off. There is no preparedness to attend to any of this madness. They have sent their wards overseas for safety and good education. They embezzle our commonwealth and stash overseas where their families are. As we mourn in hunger, they are all focused on the upcoming Election that will validate them to continue to Rule forever and the hungry masses are acquiring the Tickets (PVC) that will validate them to continue punishing and dehumanizing us.
How would anybody be sane in a place like this.
