The deadly Fulani terrorists have laid siege in Nike and Agbogazi communities in Enugu State for the past three months unchallenged.
The news coming from Nike and Agbogazi communities both in Enugu East LGA of Enugu state is horrific and terrifying. From the month of March 2024 till date, these communities have suffered multiple attacks and lost hundreds of lives and properties worth billions have either been destroyed or looted by these bandits. Many people have been displayed from their homes.
On a daily basis, these terrorists in the disguise of herdsmen have been in their real businesses of kidnapping, maiming and killing the people unchallenged by Nigeria Security. This hellish situation has turned the villagers into great agony, hopelessness and dejection.
More worrisome is the quick release of the arrested seven members of the criminal Fulani herdsmen by the Nigeria Police. These are terrorists who were caught with poisonous machetes and AK-47 and handed over to the Nigeria Security Operatives. They were released from the Police custody without prosecution.
The invitation of the Nigeria Police to salvage the situation only worsened it and escalated the frequency of the attacks. The terrorists became more emboldened and unleashed mayhem on daily basis. The hapless but disappointed members of the communities asked the compromised Nigeria Police to leave their land since their invitation only fuelled the situation. The Nigeria Police left the defenceless communities to continue dying in the hands of these terrorists.
Since the departure of the Nigerian police, the terrorists have not stopped the daily attacks with daggers, machetes, guns and other dangerous weapons. On the 9th of April 2024, they attacked and left not less than 20 dead with nearly the entire villagers fleeing from their ancestral homes to safety in the neighbouring communities. Those who do not have where to run to have stayed back to face their deaths. The communities are so porous now that nobody dares to go farming or stay out after 6.00pm, for fear of being attacked and killed.
Despite the cries of the people to the Governor of Enugu, Mr Peter Mbah for a genuine security intervention, there is still no response till date. We are hereby calling on the international communities, and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to urgently come to our rescue before we are completely wiped out by these terrorists whom we suspect are government sponsored.
