Those who do not remember where the rain started beating them will certainly not remember where the rain stopped beating them.
It is in the light of the above Biafran saying that it becomes imperative that honouring, or remembering the fallen Heroes and Heroines of Biafra who because of their quest for the freedom of their people died before, during, or after the worst ever genocidal war carried out against peaceful, helpless, and hapless people (Biafrans) between 1967 to 1970, has become a tradition in Biafra land.
The event which started with a candle night, voluntarily observed by the Biafran people both home and in diaspora on the night of 29th prior to 30th May 2024 has once again proven to the Nigerian government, Africa and the world at large that memories of their fathers/mothers who passed through hell to their deaths for the sake of the freedom of their unborn generations shall never be forgotten.
The remembrance exercise was observed on 30th May 2024, and has without doubts turned to an epoch-making event as Biafran men, women, youths and children completely complied with the rules of sit-at-home as instructed by the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This voluntary compliance compelled all government, public, and private business activities in Enugu State to grind to a halt.
The Facts Of The Sit-at-home Exercises in Enugu State
The ever-busy areas in Enugu city appeared to be the epicentre of the sit-at-home as the Holy Ghost area, Zik Avenue, New Haven/Bisala Road going to Enugu State Government house and Okpara Square etc, were in total lockdown. All markets in the urban and rural areas were all in total compliance. The civil servants absolutely conformed to the lockdown solidarity, despite the threats from the Enugu State pocket governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
All those who were saying that IPOB is not a State Actor were in total shock, if not disbelief, as the level of cooperation willingly demonstrated by Biafrans held them in dumbfoundedness as they confessed that the Remembrance Day went down in history as very remarkable.
The event took place in a grand style, as Enugu State IPOB fired 11 Thunderous Salutes to the Biafran Fallen Heroes and Heroines at 12 noon, in honour of the fallen Heroes in Biafra land.
The closure of, not only the markets, but also street shops as a mark of honour, as necessitated by this event is a very serious and unmistakable message to the world from the Biafran people.
Meanwhile, on this day in 1967, the Republic of Biafra was declared, following the failure of Nigerian government to announce and implement the Aburi Accord resolutions, as reached by Nigeria Government represented by Yakubu Gowon with other Nigerian Delegates. The then Eastern Region was as well represented under the able and charismatic leadership of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Remember that on declaring Biafra, Britain under the cover of Nigerian government responded with the ignition of this brutal genocidal war, which was ONLY suspected in 1970, as the war did not actually end, but has continued in other forms and phases up to this moment.
It is the continuation of the genocidal war in other forms and phases that has necessitated the resurrection, or should we say, resuscitation of the Biafra Restoration Advocacy which many people like to refer to as AGITATION.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through his diplomatic moves and teachings has become the mediator and advocate, and as well made a landmark, or historic lifetime reminder of the cruel reality of a country that was unjustly and unjustifiably pressed into weakness, but not, and never to silence.
Today the once feeble-man has gradually begun to regain strength. And the snowballing blood of the innocent Biafran babies, children, youths and adults who were killed and starved to death, now find expression in one man - Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and continuously wail to their Eze Chukwu Okike Abiama, their Creator.
From the look of the just concluded Biafran Heroes day, the people (once weak) has summoned courage in full force to continue, even in the face of death to project their determination to ensure the dissolution of this cannibalistic long expired union called Nigeria.
Biafra's demand is a #UN_supervised #REFERENDUM.
