Nigeria Has Lost It All

The worst thing that can happen to anybody is insecurity in a country one calls his homeland. This country is constantly experiencing new and fearful developments (chiboo anu ozo), according to an Igbo adage. Just take a look at the Nigerians who were deported from the US; what do you think will be their fate? How will they face the ugly situation seen here in Nigeria? Do you think they will be able to survive it?

Of course, not because they have been away too long and live a perfect and conducive life in the US, which has mastered their being. These people ran away from this dubious government, thinking they had escaped or been freed, only to return to square one again.

But come to think about it, why should people be crying their eyeballs out only because they were forced to go back to their homeland? Are they not supposed to be happy, or is it because of the fear of what awaits them? Remember, they ran away from the fear of death, poverty, tribalistic war, insecurity, lack of job opportunities and systemic looting, to mention but a few. The terrorists perpetrating these atrocities now have a new dimension: kidnapping and organ harvesting.

Nigeria can never wake up from her slumber; she has failed woefully. She has failed to fulfil her obligation to her citizens. She has failed to live up to her name as the giant of Africa. People now call Nigeria a sleeping giant. Once the hope of Africa, Nigeria has turned into a laughing stock in the committee of nations. Nigerians are ashamed to show their passport in public, the same way they are embarrassed to mention the Naira exchange rate when discussing with friends and colleagues from other nations.
