It has dawned on every indigene of Delta State that the Fulani herders have come to stay in their lands, ravaging their hard-earned properties, maiming and slaughtering the indigenous people at will. The State of Delta is made up of 25 local government areas and three senatorial zones, Delta North, Delta South and Delta Central. In recent times, there are daily records of killings, kidnappings and raping of women in one Local Government area or another. No place in the entire State is safe.
The Farmers are the worst hit. Their farmlands are either destroyed or farmers are killed while farming. If they succeed in planting, they cannot harvest. Before the harvest season, the terrorist herders will boldly feed their cattle with the crops.
In the midst of all this, one might wonder if there is any law prohibiting such a reckless act. Indeed, there is a law. Three years ago, in 2021, the State House of Assembly passed an anti-grazing bill aimed at preventing open grazing of cattle in the state. This law was explicitly designed to protect properties, farmlands, and the rights of indigenous people from any destruction caused by herders.
However, the state has failed to act, allowing these marauders to roam freely through the capital city and everywhere else without any arrests or prosecutions. So Many communities have protested to the authorities about the killings, raping of women and destruction of farm lands by these terrorists, but without results. The government has remained silent and inactive. They only make empty promises at each crime scene.
The indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned states within Biafra territory, of which Delta State is one, about the dangers of allowing these terrorists into their states. Instead, the state governments turned around to criminalize IPOB. Sadly, today, they are now facing the sad reality with no one to run to because even the federal government and its security agencies are involved in this crime against the indigenous people of Biafra. They are here to take over our land and wipe out the original owners of the land.
We can only advise the indigenous People to arm themselves and fight back. Don't wait for the Government. They are not coming; they are on the side of the terrorists. Defend yourselves and rather die fighting than be slaughtered on your knees. We are not cowards. We are republicans and we don't take humiliation from strangers in our lands.
As we continue to seek a sovereign State of Biafra, we must be defenders of our Land.
