Right from the days of Catriona_Laing, as the sole Administrator of the British estate called Nigeria, the Government of the UK had been striving to associate IPOB, a non-violent #SELF_DETERMINATION group, with violence.
That was why Britain, through the then Attorney General of Nigeria, #Abubakar_Malami, went at night to obtain an interim injunction from the late Justice Kafarati, proscribing IPOB and classifying IPOB as a terror group.
The actions taken were primarily aimed at reducing the impact of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which is a non-violent self-determination mass movement. They also served to divert attention from the activities of the genuine terrorists that both the UK and Nigerian governments have allowed to proliferate in Northern Nigeria. This has led to a significant shift in public perception, where these terrorists are often referred to as "bandits," obscuring the reality of their actions.
The British and Nigerian governments may have believed they successfully diverted the world's attention from the true identity of the terrorists they chose to label as "bandits." However, reports from Northern Nigeria reveal a different story. These reports detail the frequent invasions and attacks on military barracks, formations, bases, and checkpoints. They also highlight the arbitrary destruction and burning of local communities, the occupation and renaming of these areas, and the imposition of taxes and other tolls, with severe consequences for noncompliance.
The number of people killed in these communities, the mass burials being conducted weekly or monthly, and the continuous influx of individuals into internally displaced persons (IDP) camps all serve as clear evidence of the true nature of the terrorists. These facts expose the illusion that the world's attention has been successfully directed away from their real identity and actions.
Meanwhile, the UK and Nigerian governments continue to live in the delusion that the attention of the world has gone to IPOB as a violent group. But to the consternation of the detractor-governments, IPOB is gaining higher momentum, wider acceptability, and stronger recognition all over the world, with broader hands of friendship extended to her in appreciation of her maintaining her non-violent pursuit of #Biafra's #SELF_DETERMINATION goal.
The focus and the DEMAND of BIAFRANS remain simple.
That focus is a #UN_supervised #REFERENDUM.
REFERENDUM is a democratic process involving voting, never a call for war.
The earlier British and Nigerian governments understand and align with this incontrovertible and indisputable truth, the better for everyone.
