The amalgamation of Nigeria by Britain in 1914 was not only a deliberate attempt to create war and disunity, but also a well-drawn architectural plan designed to reap the Oil and mineral resources embedded in the soil of both regions, otherwise called the Southern and Northern Protectorates.
The Berlin Conference of 1885, held in Berlin, Germany, was a pivotal event where European powers arbitrarily drew lines on maps, often ignoring existing African societies. This led to the creation of new borders that disregarded ethnic, linguistic, and cultural boundaries.
The decisions made at the Berlin Conference had long-lasting and devastating consequences for Nigeria and Africa as a whole. They contributed to political instability, economic exploitation, and social disruption that continue to affect the continent today.
After the Biafran genocide, known as the Nigerian Civil War, the Nigerian government, following advice from Britain, renamed the Bight of Biafra to the Gulf of Guinea. This was a deliberate attempt to erase the name 'Biafra.'
British interests were focused on oil, and they viewed the Igbo people as the primary obstacle to their perpetual ownership of these resources. Following the 1914 amalgamation of the Southern and Northern Protectorates, the next step was to change the nomenclature.
They strategically grouped the wise (the Igbos), the foolish (the Hausa/Fulani), and the chameleonic (the Yorubas) together to create confusion, distracting the people from their own resources while continuing to leech on Nigeria's oil.
In 1953, Britain manipulated the Population Census to benefit the Northern region and serve its own interests. In 1959, they also influenced the elections in their favour. From then on, election results were consistently manipulated to maintain this advantage. Additionally, they instilled false hopes in the Yoruba people in their rivalry with the Southeast Igbo people.
Sadly, only the people from the Southeast understand the antics of Britain and remain the only region that has consistently kicked against the parasitic Britain with no fear or favour.
The Southeast Biafran people have always been in opposition to Britain to date. This is why Britain will continue to wrestle with the name Biafra and has vowed never to allow Biafra to gain its sovereignty.
The Southeast doesn't need the approval of Britain to gain its independence. All we need is to come together as a people in one voice to say Enough is Enough. Any day the general population of the southeast people speaks in one voice without sabotage, then Biafran sovereignty will be achieved in no distant time.
