It is on record that between the years 2024 and 2025, the IPOB members in Okpoto community in Ishielu local Government in Ebonyi State faced the worst horror ever. There has been a systematic abduction and execution of the people suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Hundreds of people have vanished without a trace. Many are abducted and executed, while others who are lucky are undergoing incarceration in various government detention camps.

The government and its actors tag every violence in the state on the IPOB group. Even when Fulani terrorists attack, they will quickly tag it IPOB. An example is an incident last year in Okpoto, where a man was kidnapped and later found dead in the Okpoto bush. Immediately the body was found, without investigation, the community leaders tagged it to ESN, the security arm of IPOB tasked to give security to Biafrans against the invading Fulani Terrorists in forest areas.

This wrong tag has escalated the killing of innocent people in the state and the destruction of Properties.

Information at our disposal has it that five innocent IPOB members from the community were arrested and are still in detention till the time of this report, including a pastor who is not an IPOB member. The alarming situation right now is the placing of every IPOB member in Ebonyi State on a Security Watch List of wanted people. Many communities are ghost towns because of the fear of being abducted and executed.

What is the crime of the members of IPOB?

They seek their constitutional Right from the corrupt state of Nigeria. They seek self-determination from the failed State of Nigeria. They have not committed any crime known by Law. It is their constitutional Right to demand a sovereign State. This Right is enshrined in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and Nigeria is a signatory to it.

The IPOB family in Ebonyi State is calling on its Leadership and the international community to intervene, or the community as a whole may be wiped out in no distant time.
