The Nigerian Government and Its Security Agencies Are Accomplices to Terrorism

The continuous romancing of different terrorists and their gangs in the Northern part of Nigeria by the federal government of Nigeria has made the indigenous people in Nigeria question whether a government really exists. Nigeria's counterterrorism policy has increasingly leaned toward negotiation, amnesty, and reintegration of insurgents in the North.

A sane government of any country's priority is to protect the lives and properties of her citizens and not to toil and play games with the lives of her citizens. Such care shown by the government boosts the morale, trust and support of the citizens towards the country. It creates a conducive environment for all kinds of development, which then propels the country to greater heights. Still, in the case of the so-called audio giant of Africa, "Nigeria", the reverse becomes the case.

Nigeria's current approach to terrorism in the North risks legitimizing violence, eroding justice, and destabilizing the country further. While peace is a noble goal, it must not come at the cost of accountability, transparency, and the rule of law. A recalibration of policy is urgently needed—one that balances security with justice, and pragmatism with principle.

‎The situation in Nigeria replicates a proverb that says "the continuous disposition of the land yields a huge profit to some evil leaders" when the government paves a negotiable way with terrorists known for displacing its citizens, and adds the names of notorious Fulani herdsmen killers on the government payroll. In contrast, her citizens suffer from hunger, unemployment, and inadequate social amenities. What a ridiculous government whose wickedness against her citizens is more brutal than cannibalism.
