False Flag on Eastern Security Network by The Nigerian Department of State Security

The DSS has continuously declared the Eastern Security Network (ESN) an illegal organization and that the mother body IPOB has been proscribed as a terrorist group, a stance often debated by ESN supporters who argue that it is a self-defense force. The DSS has been involved in joint security operations that have clashed with ESN strongholds in the Southeast region of Nigeria.

In one report by the EASTERN NEWS Newspaper in July 2025, the Department of State Security of Nigeria (DSS) had reported that the Eastern Security Network formed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to protect the Biafran people from the incessant massacre by the jihadists Fulani was instead a terrorist group that must be flushed out at all costs. This report is misleading and was coined out of hate and an attempt to blackmail IPOB. Since that false and malicious report, there have been counterclaims from the leadership of IPOB.

IPOB, the parent body of ESN, have repeatedly emphasized that the Nigerian government and security agencies are the ones supervising the activities of "Fulani Terrorists" and that the ESN was formed to counter this threat in the entire southeast region.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, established the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in December 2020. This formation was in response to what he viewed as the failure of Southeast governors to protect the people of the Southeast from attacks by Fulani herders. Kanu stated that, due to the governors' inaction, his group would take matters into its own hands to provide security.

Residents were facing constant attacks from herders on their farmland, women were being raped, farms were being destroyed, and farmers were being killed daily. The ESN was launched as a paramilitary unit to fill this security void. Kanu and IPOB were responding to the outcry of Southeast citizens who were being targeted by Fulani herders, who were committing various atrocities across the nation at that time.

Nnamdi Kanu cited the Southeast Governors' inaction as the main reason for the formation of the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He stated that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was stepping in to take on the responsibilities that the Governors had neglected. The ESN was established to provide security and was designed as a paramilitary unit to address the region's security gap.

The recent blackmail of the ESN by the Police is an attempt to create evidence for the prosecution of the leader of the IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who was unlawfully kidnapped from Kenya and has been under incarceration at the DSS department since 2021. They have been searching for evidence to nail him to no avail.

The Department of State Security knows that the real criminals ravaging the entire country are the Terrorist Fulani Jihadists. They are aware that ESN was formed to check terrorists, just as some regions of the country have also formed security Outfits for the same purpose.

The Southeast people have continuously protested against their coexistence with the Nigerian state. They have written to world powers seeking their attention to the genocide going on in Nigeria and their support for the restoration of the Biafran sovereign State. We are happy that the USA has responded to the activities of the Fulani terrorist Jihadist, and we shall continue to support her to intervene and save Lives while also seeking self-determination.
