When a Police Facility Becomes an Execution Ground.
The atrocities of Tiger Base extend beyond disappearance. They reach into darker terrain, which is extrajudicial execution.
In a functioning society, where there is adherence to the rule of law, arrest leads to charge, charge leads to trial, and trial leads to verdict. But in the case of Tiger Base, what is obtainable is a parallel justice system, where accusation equals death.
Families recount bodies returned with signs of torture. Others never receive bodies at all. Reports circulate of late-night transfers and unmarked burial sites. All these assertions and revelations constitute not just misconduct but crimes against humanity.
With this type of rascality and impudence, the critical and devastating moral question becomes: when the state becomes executioner without trial, who polices the police?
