March 20 2023 | State Media
The people of Uli community located in Ihiala, Ekwusigo local government area, Anambra State were woken up in their sleep early hours of 8th March 2023 by heavy military bombardments. The entire community of over 10,000 people were set to scamper for their lives. There was a race by everyone, Women, Children and old people.
As the people fled their homes were set on fire. Over 47 houses were burning at the same time. Properties worth billions of Naira were destroyed without any provocation by the people of this community.
The IPOB Media Team managed to visit 2 villages (Umuaku and Umuchima) out of several villages invaded to investigate the cause of this mayhem and assess the level of carnage committed.
The entire community is a ghost town with no single building standing. A total of 47 houses were affected. Each building was vandalized, valuables looted before it was set ablaze.
The Media team was lucky to meet an elderly man who came around to see if he could pick his Bicycle but unfortunately, he could not find it, even his full bag of rice and electronics were gone. He was in tears and could not speak for a long time.
We continued to press on him to tell us what transpired before the attack and he pointed accusing fingers on a member of the community by name A.B.C Orjiakor who is also a leader of the recently proscribed Ebubeagu militia in the community. He uses this squad to rob and intimidate the people of Uli. The community held a meeting and everyone was advised to be watchful of A.B.C Orjiakor because he was using the proscribed state government Ebubeagu militia to commit several unholy activities in the village.
When he got wind of this meeting by his kinsmen, he deployed the state police to arrest one Mr Agujiegbe whom he saw as the spokesperson of his community and tagged him an IPOB member. As the community was making preparation to get Agujiegbe released, Mr ABC Orjiakor ran to the state government, the military was told that the community were members of indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) and to their shock, the military was deployed to arrest the people and raze down the community.
The military arrested 5 people including a woman. They burned down houses and Churches. There is no single person left. We could not ascertain if there were casualties during the attack because we didn't find people of the community.
We got to understand that the military has occupied some areas of this community stopping journalists from capturing this mayhem. The 5 people they took away were badly tortured and brutalized. They have been traced to Police SARS in Awkuzu and the Nigeria Police is demanding for N5million as bail for each Person. Since the people could not afford it, they are kept in custody till date.
This pattern of military invasion has become acceptable by the Southeast Governors as a means of suppressing and intimidating the people to submission for perpetual slavery in Nigeria because of their selfish gains.
Uli community needs help because they have been displaced and the military has occupied their ancestral home. No Nigeria media house has covered this carnage. This is how atrocities are covered in southeast of Nigeria by the state actors.
