One of the natural laws that Biafrans adhere strictly to, which they have reshaped into a philosophical assertion is that "if a man buries himself, his one hand or foot must stick out." This is exactly the unavoidable reality, to which the erstwhile Nigerian military head of state, Yakubu Gowon has come to.
Yakubu Gowon, as a former military head of state of Nigeria, does not need elaborate introduction, if not for the fact that the Nigerian education system, through the conspiracy and complicity of the Nigerian establishment, as dictated by the British government, removed history from the curriculum of Nigerian schools.
Be that as it may, it must not be forgotten that it was Yakubu Gowon, who after Aguiyi Ironsi botched the revolution that was led by Nzeogwu, murdered Aguiyi Ironsi as the succeeding head of state, whose Chief of Army Staff Gowon was at that time.
As Gowon murdered Aguiyi Ironsi and took over the reigns of power as the Head of State, he ignited what was called a pogrom against #Igbo_Biafrans, which led to the murder of tens of thousands of Igbo_Biafrans in different parts of Nigeria, especially the northern part.
Even though Gowon was tacitly and covertly supporting this wide scale unmitigated murder of Igbo_Biafrans in different parts of Nigeria, yet he claimed that putting a stop to it was beyond his capacity (not withstanding that he had assumed the office of the Head of State and Commander in Chief of Nigeria).
It was because of the concern that the widespread murder of Igbo_Biafrans raised around the world, especially in the West African sub region, coupled with the apparent danger that was confronting every #Igbo_Biafrans, that the choice of ABURI, as a venue for PEACE DIALOGUE, spearheaded by Ghanaian Head of State, General Ankrah, was made to resolve all the issues bedevilling Nigeria, as a country with multiple nationalities.
At ABURI, not only that every issue that was causing, or had the likelihood of causing friction tension was exhaustively discussed and agreed upon, but certain statutory rights of the Eastern Region (#Igbo_Biafrans) were given up, to ensure that peace reigned.
But after signing the agreement at ABURI, (which later came to be known as #Aburi_Accord), and a copy was transmitted to @10DowningStreet, occupied by #HaroldWilson, through @UKinNigeria, superintended by #SirDavidHunt, Gowon was instructed to repudiate the #Aburi_Accord.
Sequel to this instruction, on return from ABURI, Gowon failed to publish or broadcast the #ABURI_ACCORD, as agreed, so as to calm down the tension, and mitigate the mass murder of #Biafrans taking place all over Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Igbo_Biafrans were still being murdered all over Nigeria in their tens of thousands, forcing most of them to flee (in retreat) to the East.
It was because of the delay on the side of Gowon in publishing or broadcasting the #ABURI_ACCORD that made Ojukwu to publish it. After publishing the ABURI_ACCORD, in which was contained every solution to every problem, the British government compelled Gowon to disassociate himself from it.
Meanwhile, the mass murder of Igbo_Biafrans was intensifying on daily basis.
It was the refusal of Gowon (under the instruction of the British government) to take the necessary action, so as to abate the unmitigated murder of Igbo_Biafrans, that prompted Ojukwu, as the Governor of Eastern Region, to declare the Independent state of #Biafra.
It must be stated for the umpteenth time that the purpose of declaring #Biafra, as mandated by Eastern Regional Assembly and house of Chiefs, was not for any territorial competition or aggrandizement, but to serve as an authentic and legitimate basis for Igbo_Biafrans self defense, seeing that the Federal government, under Gowon, was rather promoting the pogrom, than abating it.
Now, as the independent nation of Biafra was declared, Gowon, at the behest of the British government, declared a FORTY-EIGHT-hour POLICE ACTION that would "solve the Igbo question permanently." (By this, Gowon meant military exterminative pounding that would leave no living thing in Biafra).
By the very fact that Britain had succeeded in getting Gowon to start this genocidal war against Igbo_Biafrans, the British government took it up from there.
Between 1967 when Gowon started the genocidal war and 1970 when it was SUSPENDED, Britain and her allies, including USSR, US, and the Islamic world, murdered over six million Biafrans, confiscated Biafra's OIL AND GAS, and imposed various genocidal economic measures upon Biafra, some of which are still in force up to this moment.
