The demand for a sovereign state of Biafra by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a constitutional move, Nigeria being a signatory to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
This cry for self-determination became inevitable as a result of great marginalization, discrimination, unprovoked killings and subjugation of the people.
Since the demand was made in 2014 till date, there has been a steady bloodbath and over 30,000 unarmed and defenseless citizens have died directly or indirectly in the hands of the Nigerian security forces (police, military and spy police).
Majority of this number were tortured to death. There are those who are secretly held without fair hearing. There are several thousands of others who have permanently disappeared during their abductions and incarcerations. Also. There is no information about them over the years.
The Nigerian security forces comprising the military (army, air force and navy under the defense headquarters); the various crack squads of the Nigeria police force and the Spy Police (SSS) have in the past ten years carried out major atrocious operations, calamitously leading to direct or indirect deaths of over 30,000 unarmed and defenseless citizens of the Southeast of Nigeria.
Indirect Deaths
The indirect deaths included those that died from various torture, gunshot injuries or those whose bread winners were abducted and disappeared as such hunger, starvations and deprivations visited upon their dependants occasioned by their absence. Included in this category also are victims of the Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen and Jihadist Fulani bandits.
Direct Deaths
Those of direct deaths; tortured to death, abducted, permanently disappeared, kidnapped, openly shot and killed under false labelling or abducted from their homes, job places, on their way to home or work or social outings and tortured or starved to death.
The most shocking of it all is that the country’s security forces, paid to protect the Igbo vulnerable populations, and their counterparts across other regions have been compromised and joined forces with the assembled jihadists to terrify, terrorize, kill, maim, abduct, disappear, torture, humiliate, loot, plunder, invade, seize, occupy, burn, destroy and Islamize the defenseless citizens.
The Southeast Governors are not left out in this bloodbath. They are also collaborators and errand boys to the Fulani oligarchs. It is under the watch of these Governors that the citizens’ territorial security, safety and welfare can only be compared to the “Biafra-Nigeria Civil War Period”.
They escalate insecurity and other unsafe conditions and use them to wastefully spend public funds worth billions of naira every month without anything to show for it. Apart from heightening insecurity and other unsafe conditions, these Governors have monumentally failed to offer good and accountable governance premised on economic security, environmental security, food security nor health security.
They have clannishly continued to see and treat security as "Trigger Happy". Their armed groups have been responsible for the killings, maiming and looting, burning down of houses and properties all for purposes of first, shutting down the agitators of a Biafra State, for radical Islamism and for deadly political interests.
Amongst the Government-linked killer entities in the killings, Looting, raping and burning down of properties in Igbo Land for purposes of radical Islamism and deadly politics are; the Ebubeagu Vigilante Groups, the Asari Dokubo’s Niger Delta Islamic Militants, the Jihadist Fulani herdsmen and Bandits, MACABAN Vigilante Groups and other suspected Government assembled Terrorists. State security elements drawn from the military, regular spy police crack squads are part of these elements.
The Express Highways and Cities of Southeast of Nigeria has been laid siege by Nigeria soldiers and Police who lay roadblocks at every 1km. Passengers using commercial vehicles are forced to disembark at Army Roadblocks and trek for kilometres under torture and other degrading threats. The people run a high risk of being abducted and disappeared without traces if stopped at late night.
These security clampdowns by the military and the police crack squads are there only for extortion, intimidation and rising killing fields in the land.
It is worthy of note that thousands of youths kidnapped from the Southeast over the years are languishing in various Army and Police detention camps in the Federal Capital City and North without trial in any court. Majority were kidnapped from their homes, Offices or on their way to their Offices without information to their families and tagged Biafra Agitators.
The most recent outburst by the Chief of Defence Staff C. Musa in Abia State over the killing of 4 Soldiers in an illegal checkpoint in the city of Aba on 30th May 2024 and I quote; "We shall retaliate. Accordingly, it is absolutely imperative that the military retaliate against this dastardly act against troops. The military would be fierce in its response. We would bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat."
As if that war statement from Army Chief was not enough, the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria added his support when he said. I quote: "I urge the Security agencies not only to fish out the masterminds and perpetrators of the Aba attack, but also those calling out on people to "Sit-At-Home". Their action is nothing short of treason" ~Nigeria President, Tinubu.
This statement is yet a declaration of war against Biafra Agitators for daring to request for a "Sit-At-Home" on 30th May as a commemoration of Biafra Heroes who fell in the 1967-1970 genocide in the Southeast.
This declaration is a confirmation that the Nigeria State is at war with the Southeast of Nigeria. No fewer than 200 people have been declared missing with dozens of people confirmed dead after those statements from Nigeria President and the Chief of Defence Staff.
We therefore, call on the United Nations to wield into the atrocities going on in Nigeria. Nigeria has violated all human rights Laws. They have violated all International Laws. Nigeria has violated all United Nations resolutions on Human rights. They have also violated with impunity the Rights to self-determination as enshrined in the U.N charter.
If a sitting President can request the Military to treat Indigenous People of Biafra as Terrorists because they demanded for Self-determination which is enshrined in the U.N charter, then he should be sanctioned for committing treason.
