Food self-sufficiency is a country's ability to produce enough food domestically to meet its own needs, reducing reliance on imports. It is often measured by the Self-Sufficiency Ratio (SSR), which compares domestic production to total consumption.
IPOB Worldwide, under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has taken the initiative to mobilize Biafrans for this agricultural revolution, which aims to produce sufficient food for local consumption and export.
This initiative seeks to raise awareness about the risks of depending on food supplies from Northern Nigeria. The tragic events during the 1967 genocide in Biafra, where millions died from starvation as a weapon of war, serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of such reliance. It would be a grave mistake—one we may not survive—to allow history to repeat itself. This is a call to action for all Biafrans, both at home and abroad, to engage with this vital cause.
Aside from the losses during the war, as a people who have resolved to build an independent nation, we must understand the other benefits of being Self-sufficient in Food production.
Firstly, food security reduces vulnerability to disruptions in global food supply chains and protects against price volatility.
Secondly, agricultural productivity boosts the economy and generates employment opportunities for citizens.
Lastly, it reduces dependence on imports. Less reliance on foreign trade can enhance national security and decrease economic vulnerability.
We are blessed with good soil. We have the human resources.
We must rise to the occasion and build a strong, enviable nation using Agriculture.
