On May 30th 1967, the late Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu made a National speech declaring the entire Eastern Nigeria a sovereign State to be known as the REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA. The decision to make this declaration was taken after several efforts were made to stop the unprovoked ethnic cleansing of the Igbo people in Nigeria. The last attempt was the Aburi (Ghana) Accord, an agreement Nigeria reneged on.
Excerpt of Ojukwu's speech on May 30th 1967.
"Having mandated me to proclaim on your behalf, and in your name, that Eastern Nigeria be a sovereign Independent Republic, Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Military Governor of Eastern Nigeria, by virtue of the authority, and pursuant to the principles, recited above, do hereby solemnly proclaim that the territory and region known as and called Eastern Nigeria together with their Continental shelf and territorial waters, shall henceforth be an Independent Sovereign State of the name and title of THE REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA.
Long live the Republic of Biafra!
And May God protect all who live in her!"
~Lieutenant Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu

30 MAY 1967.
It is exactly 58 years today.
We were ambushed and killed in millions. Foetuses ruptured from pregnant mothers, and millions were buried aliveðŸ˜
Buildings were bombed, and millions were buried in rumblesðŸ˜
The Food blockade resulted in starvation and kwashiorkor; millions died ðŸ˜
They said it was no "Victor no Vanquished One Nigeria".
Yet our finances were frozen. If you had £500m in the Nigeria Bank, you were entitled to just 20pounds, the rest frozen
They said it was no "Victor no Vanquished One Nigeria".
Yet, our properties located outside Igbo land were all confiscated and tagged Abandoned Property.
They said it was no "Victor no Vanquished One Nigeria".
The 3Rs, which were signed as the war ended, never came to fruition. We started re-building back little by little to date.
58 years after the genocide, where is the place of the Igbo man in "One Nigeria"??
We were buried, never to come back. But like seeds we came back even stronger and finer. Our wealth was confiscated, so we never taste it again, but today, we have amassed so much wealth that people envy us dangerously.
We cannot close the chapter of today without giving kudos to Ohamadike, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the man who resurrected May 30th and said it should be a day of Remembrance. A Day set aside to give tributes to all our Heroes and Heroines who fell fighting to defend our land.
God bless General Odumegwu Ojukwu.
God bless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
May God continue to bless the Igbo race and lovers of Ndigbo.
Happy Remembrance Day to you all, lovers of Justice and Equity.
