Nigeria politicians: Corruption and Nonchalance in the Duty to Protect Lives

The way politics is conducted in Nigeria by corrupt politicians, both young and old, reveals a group of callous individuals who do not care about the lives of the citizens who elected them into office.

The British government, which essentially oversees Nigeria's day-to-day affairs, shows little regard for the interests and needs of the impoverished citizens. Instead, it pursues its own selfish interests, exploiting our resources.

Democracy, as rightly defined, is government of the people, for the people, and by the people. This means that the citizens should always come first in the actions of elected leaders, from the highest to the lowest ranks, as they are called to serve rather than impose their will on those who elected them.

Government by the people: this is the point at which citizens are informed of every step taken by elected officials, who are termed political leaders. In Nigeria, the reverse has been the case due to a deeply corrupt institution supervised by the British government.

Democracy stipulates that a Government for the people should prioritise the well-being and security of citizens; it should be seen as a priority and a primary goal.

In every true democratic leadership, protecting lives and property cannot be overemphasised. Sadly, Nigeria, being a badly structured nation by Britain, allows criminal government officials to toy with the lives and properties of the Nigerian citizens. They don't care if the entire country is wiped out, so long as it doesn't affect the pipeline that supplies crude oil to their tankers.

Nigeria is a Disgraced Country, as Trump recently stated. A nation whose electoral system has collapsed has failed because the worst of us continues to rule us. That is a definition of a Disgraced country.

A country that negotiates with the fourth most deadly terror group is a Disgraced country.

A nation that can not guarantee the lives of its citizens is a Disgraced country.

When a nation loses its territorial integrity to terrorists, that country is a Disgraced country.

Nigeria must be disintegrated. Let regions go their separate ways and develop at their own pace while ensuring the security of lives and property for their citizens.
