As usual, on the 30th of May 2025, as it has become customary with Biafrans, we shall be observing the HEROES AND HEROINES day.

What is the significance, implication, and symbolism of Biafra's Heroes and Heroines Day?

Biafra's Heroes and Heroines Day hold significant importance as it honours various individuals from Biafra who made sacrifices to prevent the extermination and annihilation of the Igbo Nation. This threat was primarily orchestrated by Britain through its proxy, represented by the Nigerian government under Yakubu Gowon, during the genocidal conflict known as the Nigerian Civil War.

These Biafran heroes and Heroines fought on many fronts, including, but not limited to, physical combat (where, in some cases, they fought without the necessary weapons and implements), intelligence units, research and development, hospitals, agricultural fields, etc.

Don't forget that when Harold Wilson of the United Kingdom, through Yakubu Gowon and Awolowo, imposed a total land, sea, and air blockade upon Biafrans. These heroes and Heroines stood firm and invented all that Biafrans used to withstand the world for nearly three years.

While they were withstanding the world, the world found it very baffling that those whom Britain, through Gowon, had boasted that they could wipe out within 48 hours were resisting the planned obliteration for almost three years. No wonder they remain our heroes and Heroines.

The heroes and heroines of Biafra include both those who are living and those who have passed away, all of whom have endured the resistance of the British and Nigerian governments to their self-determination, a struggle that continues today.

As is well known, the British government, the ultimate loser if Biafra is restored, has been complicit in the ongoing covert genocide against the Biafran people. This effort aims to undermine, suppress, or potentially extinguish their quest for self-determination.

This situation highlights the tragic reality that numerous Biafrans have been unjustly murdered, gone missing, or remain unaccounted for. Additionally, many others are held in various detention camps and denied any form of access or communication. All of these individuals are the true heroes and heroines of Biafra.

What's the implication of this Biafra's Special Heroes and Heroines Day?

The significance of Biafra's Heroes and Heroines Day primarily lies in its purpose: to honour those who made immense sacrifices for the nation's survival. It is a day dedicated to recognizing and acknowledging those who placed the country's well-being above their own lives and willingly gave their lives for future generations.

In essence, this day represents patriotism and a profound commitment to national existence in a way that words often fail to capture. We Biafrans know that honouring our heroes will inspire, motivate, and encourage every Biafran, serving as a strong foundation for every Biafran.

Are there symbolisms that highlight Biafra's Heroes and Heroines Day?

The Biafra Heroes and Heroines Day is considered sacred and must be treated with utmost reverence. One significant way to honour this day is through a national "sit-at-home" observance. This means that every Biafran, whether at home or in the diaspora, should remain indoors to pay respect to the memories of those who have passed away and to show solidarity with those suffering various forms of torture, such as incarceration, isolation, and inaccessibility.

Additionally, Biafra Heroes Day is marked by various solemn activities, including candlelight vigils, wreath-laying ceremonies, eulogies, and the unveiling of statues and epitaphs. As Biafrans prepare for this exceptional day, they should remember this blueprint. This will assist them in preparing, observing, executing, and critically analyzing all the essential and relevant issues related to the commemoration.

Remember the Biafra's Heroes and Heroines Day, 2025, to keep it holy.
