The Nigerian President, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who has a controversial past as a former drug lord, has responded to former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar regarding the latter's support for the nationwide protests led by Omoyele Sowore. These protests call for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who was kidnapped by the Nigerian government in Kenya and extraordinarily renditioned back to Nigeria. He has been detained for over four years under severe conditions.
In his statement, conveyed through his special adviser on information, the president described the renewed agitation for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's release as an attempt to incite disorder and undermine the rule of law. This statement is viewed by many as hypocritical, coming from a leader with a questionable background who was installed in power despite the will of the people. It is a slap in the face to watch President Ahmed Bola Tinubu speak about the Rule of Law.
This is a man who has bundled the INEC and the Judiciary into his pockets. The Legislature is not left out. Tinubu has destroyed whatever little good was left of this country after his predecessor, the late Muhammadu Buhari. A man who sends out the military to attack innocent people in their houses because of their beliefs cannot be reminding us of the Rule of Law.
Tinubu controls and determines the outcome of judicial processes, overturning court verdicts. He was seen recently, granting pardon and releasing kidnappers, drug barons, and murderers. Renaming hardened Terrorists as "Repentant bandits", enlisted many into the Nigerian military and Police. The others, he reinstated them into communities, thereby endangering the lives and properties of the citizens.
How can a President who rolls out the military to lay siege in the southeast region of Nigeria for no logical reasons be speaking of Rule of Law? An Army he instructed to shoot and kill anyone suspected to be a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group peacefully exercising their right of freedom of association. Their crime is simply exercising their constitutional right to seek self-determination.
Tinubu's Army has obeyed his instructions to the letter. They have sieged communities and major roads in the Southeast, terrorizing the innocent masses, humiliating them at checkpoints while extorting them. So many Communities have been deserted as the Nigerian military occupied schools and Local government headquarters. They have burned down several houses and killed so many. A lot of people have been forcefully disappeared for no justification.
In Lagos State, the Southwest region where Tinubu hails from, he gave the Governor Sowolu an express authority to pull down properties belonging to the indigenous People from the Southeast. Homes and business places of the Southeast people have been attacked constantly, cajoling them to leave Lagos and return to the Southeast, where they come from. These are properties acquired and built with the approval of the State government through its Ministry of Lands and Housing. The majority were issued a certificate of occupancy.
It is under the watch of Tinubu and her British collaborator that the Rule of Law has been abandoned and swept under the carpet. The British government, one of his best allies, supports all these evils and has never condemned this gross violation of the Rights of the indigenous People of the Southeast region.
The coming of Trump is a blessing to every Christian living in Nigeria. It is a blessing to every indigenous People seeking self-determination. We look forward to a renewed hope for the subjugated, the marginalized and everyone who has been denied their dignity as Human person.
