The prolonged years of incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, by the Nigerian government is one of its efforts to squash the demand for Biafra restoration. The Nigerian government is aware that the demand for self-determination is a constitutional Right of the indigenous People, as enshrined in the UN Charter on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, to which Nigeria is a signatory.
From 1967 to 1970, the Nigerian government waged a war in the southeast region to prevent the people from seceding. During this conflict, the government committed acts of genocide. Nearly 60 years later, the same region is once again demanding a sovereign state due to widespread corruption and ongoing marginalization.
Many spurious reasons have been given for why Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is held in captivity by the government. Recently, Abba Kaka, in his recent interview on Arise Television, stated that, "If you allow Nnamdi Kanu out of the DSS dungeon, a certain political party might not win any Election". It means his matter has gone beyond the courtroom; it has become a symbol of political manipulation. He shed light on the political undertones and disguised manipulations surrounding the prolonged and unlawful detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the government.
This statement once more exposed Injustice, marginalization and all the unlawful invasion of Communities in the southeast region of Nigeria. Nigeria must cease to be addressed as a democratic Nation because it has continued to commit genocide in the southeast region, with Britain as its accomplice. It has exhibited several acts that undermine democracy, violate the rule of law, and assault the independence of the Judiciary for Political convenience.
The drug lord president, Ahmed Tinubu, has shown the entire country that indeed APC AND PDP politicians are terrorist organizations as declared by the Canadian court. A statement that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu made several years ago, and was charged with Terrorism. Today, the US government has raised an alarm pointing in the same direction, and everywhere is shaking because the statement came from the mouth of the President of the United States of America (POTUS), Donald J. Trump.
The world is watching the outcome of the court ruling, which was adjourned from the last session and is now scheduled for November 20. We are watching keenly to see if the Judiciary sinks further or clears itself, once and for all, as a tool in the hands of the executives.
In conclusion, the Indigenous People of Biafra from the Southeast region of Nigeria will not cease to demand a sovereign State of Biafra by calling on the international community to supervise a Referendum for possible exit from Nigeria.
